TO RUSSIA WITH LOVE
CHILDREN'S CHRISTIAN SUMMER CAMPS
Ministering to children and the orphanages so common throughout the former USSR has always been a big part of TRWL's ministry, but every year since 2001 To Russia With Love has organized and financed Christian Children's Camps in the countries of the former USSR. For many children, this is a highlight of their materially and often spiritually impoverished lives. A big part of the success of these programs is the leadership and faith of Russian-American teenagers from Sacramento, where our mission is based. These young Christians, with deep roots in two cultures, share their energy, love, and faith, in bringing the first exposure to the Bible and the love of Jesus and our Lord, to these children.
At the end of each camp, the children go on a Christian Journey: a simple walk in the woods where they are presented with clear, simple, Christian choices.
At left, two boys set out on their journey across the Moldovan countryside. Soon they are presented with a simple choice, which their 12 days of camp have prepared them for: do they help the injured lady (below), or do they pass on to an easier, seemingly more rewarding choice, that is offered at the same time?
Their journey will encompass perhaps ten such choices. Some will be subtle, some obvious, but the decisions they make will be discussed at our day's end service in the Light of what Jesus and our Bible teaches.
